October 13, 2009 ..... Issue #029 - Does Your Dog Seem To Vomit A Lot?

Ways To Soothe Your Dog's Upset Stomach

To some degree, vomiting and regurgitation is normal for dogs. It is a means of ridding his body of spoiled or toxic foods previously eaten.

Causes associated with vomiting:

  • Dietary indiscretions

  • Diet change

  • Eating too rapidly

  • Vaccinations

  • Side effects of drugs

  • Intolerance to specific food items

  • Food allergy

  • Obstructing objects

  • Parasites

  • Food poisoning

  • Failed kidneys

  • Pain or inflammation in some area of the body

  • Commercial pet food (rancid fats)

  • Plant poisoning

  • Toxic flea treatments

Also metabolic disorders such as kidney disease, liver disease, heat stroke, addison's disease, motion sickness, pancreatitis, middle and inner ear disease can cause vomiting.

And lastly physical disorders sucn as diaphragmatic hernia can cause vomiting.

If the condition seems mild and your dog's energy is good, let your dog fast for 24 hours to allow the stomach to settle down.

Make sure there is water available for your dog to drink, so he doesn't become dehydrated too.

Within 4 to 8 hours, began with homemade broth. After 24 hours start with small quanities of food such as chicken and brown rice; one part to 2 parts.

If your dog throws up again, restart with the broth.

If the vomiting seems chronic, it might be wise to see a holistic vet.

Change the diet to a homemade one. This is better to do when your dog is feeling better, since it can be a shock to their system and has to be introduced slowly.

In most cases, the problem of vomiting will be eliminated entirely. This I know for sure, since I started making a homemade meal years ago for my Lover and Savanna, my two beautiful golden retrievers who just turned 10 and 11 years old.

Probiotics, enzymes and essential fatty acids are necessary to keep your dog from vomiting episodes.

Wise to check out Rescue Remedy a flower essence that does wonders for stressful times for your dog and also vomiting.

Homeopathy works best because it is absorbed through the mouth not the stomach.
