October 13, 2008 ...... Issue #017 - Healing Fats Are Necessary For Your Dog's Life
Omega-6 and Omega-3 ... Essential Fatty AcidsEssential fatty acids known as healing fats help develop and maintain good hair coat and healthy skin. Dogs love fat and it is good for them, the right kind of fats. They provide energy, warmth and calories. Fat is your dog's friend. Each of our dog's cells depend on essential fatty acids for normal functioning. A deficiency of essential fatty acids will show up as: Dull coat Itchy and flaky skin Excessive body odor Can you relate? Benefits of healing fats include: Digestive problems lessened Reverse heart disease Helps arthritis Control inflammation Boost immune function Improvement of doggy odors Fight degenerative disease Use as cancer therapy Decrease allergies Help increase fertility Improve mental health Use for renal diseases ... and more. Don't be brainwashed into thinking that all fats are bad for you or your dog? If your dog is overweight, it is best to feed him less, not buy a low-fat or diet food. Most commerical dog food contains rancid fats, which rob the body of essential nutrients. Research is still incomplete on the right ratios of Omega-6 and Omega-3, but currently it is 5:1 to 10:1. (That means 5 to 10 parts Omega-6 to 1 part Omega-3.) Most foods contain high amounts of Omega 6, which comes from animal sources and grains. Higher amounts come from plant sources, such as corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil and sesame seed oil. Not enough Omega 3 however; so it is necessary to add good sources of it to your dog's diet. Greatest sources are deep water ocean fish oil, wheat germ oil and flaxseed oil. Also marine sources, such as spirulina and blue green algae. Get your dog to live longer by feeding him the right healing fats.
