What Is High Cholesterol?
High cholesterol is more common in dogs than cats. However they are not subject to get heart disease like people.
It is also known as Hyperlipidermia.
It is defined by excessive amounts of fat or fat substances increased in the bloodstream.
Cholesterol is a lipid molecule. Known as VDL, LDL, and HDL.
If your dog has a fasted triglycerides level higher than 150mg/dL or a fasted total cholesterol higher than 300mg/dL for more than 12 hours after eating a meal, they have it.
Certain breeds are more prone to it, like Schnauzers and Beagles.
Causes Of High Cholesterol:

- Hyperadrenocorticism
- Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Obesity
- Degenerative Kidney Disease
- Inflammation of the Pancreas

- Abdominal Discomfort
- Seizures
- Patches on skin
- Nervous System Dysfunctions
- Yellow bumps filled with a greasy, fatty fluid
Also experts say that dogs that chase their tail have high cholesterol.
