June 13, 2012 ...... Issue #051 - Less Than A Cup Of Coffee, Dog Food Grown And Raised Naturally

Where To Begin?

When you first start your journey of discovering new ways to help your dog stay healthy, it can get very overwhelming and mind-boggling ...

I know it was for me at first. And the other problem is, in the back of your mind is that you like and trust your vet. I liked mine too and trusted him until I found out they only learn how to do surgeries and prescribe drugs in college. I was too late finding that out. Don't let it happen to you!

Start with what God created to refuel and re-energize our bodies and do the same WITH your dogs. Feed them natural wholesome human quality foods grown in organic soil and from grass-fed animals.

I feed my dogs, Lover and Savanna a homemade diet made of grains, herbs, nuts and sea vegetables mixed in with my own meat and vegetables.

Favorite raw vegetables inclued chopped parsley, alfalfa sprouts, finely grated carrots and finely grated zucchini. Favorite cooked vegetables include carrots, peas, beans and broccoli.

The homemade diet has rolled oats, rye flakes, barley flakes, ground pecans, natural calcium carbonate, kelp powder, carob powder, parsley and nettles leaf.

The meat you add can be done or raw. Holistic vets have been recommending raw foods for over 20 years to dogs.

Favorite meats can be organic vension, rabbit, duck, tuna, hamburger, chicken, turkey, fish and lamb. It is best to use a variety.

I leave you with one of my favorite treats that Lover and Savanna just adores.

Best Dog Biscuit Recipe Ever - 2 dozen

3 cups minced parsley

1/4 cup finely shredded carrot

1/4 cup grated Parmesan or sharp cheddar cheese

1/4 cup olive oil

2 1/2 cup whole rye flour

1/2 cup flax meal

1 tsp mild paprika

2 tbsp crushed whole bran cereal

2 tbsp baking powder (no aluminum)

1/2 to 1 cup chicken, beef or vegetable broth (no msg)

Preheat oven to 350` F. In a large bowl, stir together the parsley, carrot and cheese. Add the oil and mix.

In another bowl, measure the flour, meal, paprika, bran cereal, baking powder and mix. Add the dry ingredients to the cheese mixture, then add 1/2 cup broth, stirring to mix well. Add more broth if needed to form a moist dough.

Knead 4 or 5 times. Roll to 1/2" thickness. Use dog-shaped cookie cutters, transfer to lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 20-30 minutes.

If you don't want to make your own dog treats, try wheat and corn-free and low fat ones for your health-conscious pooch.
